Storrs Student Living

1 Carleton Rd, Storrs, Connecticut, 06268

The situation

Rising enrollment at the University of Connecticut strained existing housing, creating a need for modern off-campus options. Much of the available housing wasn't designed for today's students, who desire both privacy and a sense of community.

The solution

To meet this new reality, Storrs Student Living partnered with Axela to reimagine 10 aging buildings as updated co-living spaces with private bedrooms and shared social areas. With summer leases approaching and most units still occupied, work was strategically staggered, and multiple crews ran in parallel to keep student life uninterrupted.

The result

The revitalized spaces now offer the best of both worlds—privacy when you want it, community when you don’t. Students have quickly embraced the upgrades, and the buildings are already earning strong feedback for comfort, design, and convenience.
