The situation
In Rockford, Illinois, a long-vacant grocery store sat unused, taking up space, but adding little value. Developers recognized an opportunity to transform the underutilized property into a revenue-producing community asset.
The solution
Axela retained the existing shell and rebuilt the interior, upgrading outdated systems and reconfiguring the space to meet modern standards for climate-controlled self-storage. CubeSmart was engaged to operate and manage the facility, bringing national expertise and strong brand recognition to the project.
The result
In just five and a half months, CubeSmart Rockford opened its doors - delivering climate-controlled storage, more foot traffic, and a new sense of possibility for the long overlooked neighborhood.
