Pratt Street Redevelopment

57-75 Pratt St., Downtown Hartford, CT

The situation

Pratt Street is Hartford’s most storied block, lined with century-old storefronts and beloved local merchants. With 42,000 square feet of retail below 370 apartments, the corridor needed a fresh look while protecting its historic character and steady foot traffic.

The solution

Axela partnered with preservation officials, property owners, and tenants to modernize three specialty spaces: The Tobacco Shop, Professional Barbershop, and a tattoo parlor. Each required unique ventilation, plumbing, and lounge layouts. Construction was carefully phased to keep neighbors open and the busy pedestrian street active.

The result

Updated storefronts now energize a growing downtown destination. Pratt Street feels renewed while its historic identity remains intact, adding momentum to Hartford’s broader revival
